Training Student Ambassadors and Marshals at the University of Salford

Background

At the University of Salford, Student Ambassadors and Student Marshals play a vital role in applicant-facing events such as Open Days, Offer Holder Days, UCAS events, Summer Schools, and Widening Participation projects.

These roles contribute to shaping prospective students’ first impressions of the University, providing guidance, information, and a welcoming environment.

Recognising the need to strengthen teamwork, communication, and professional conduct in these positions, the University partnered with 2engage to design and deliver interactive training sessions tailored to the unique responsibilities of Ambassadors and Marshals.

Objectives

The training, designed and delivered by 2engage, aimed to:

  • Improve teamwork and coordination during large-scale events.

  • Build confidence in proactively engaging with visitors.

  • Develop clear, effective communication skills with both visitors and colleagues.

  • Enhance presentation and public speaking skills

  • Encourage professionalism and audience awareness in applicant-facing contexts.

  • Equip students with transferable employability skills.

Training Delivery

The training incorporated a combination of group discussions, team-building exercises, and simulated real-world scenarios. Through creative and practical approaches, participants were able to practice their communication skills and develop the confidence necessary to effectively manage a variety of situations they may encounter as student ambassadors and student marshals.
