CPD Workshops: Integrating Creative Approaches Into Education

Overview

2engage delivered innovative CPD workshops aimed at embedding creative and drama-based techniques into teaching practice. These sessions targeted both staff at an alternative education provision, and university students preparing for careers in social care.

1. CPD Workshop for Teaching Staff

Location: Oakwood Pupil Support Centre (Pupil Referral Unit)
Audience: Teaching Staff (CPD Session)

Challenge

To introduce creative strategies that could be used to engage pupils within an alternative provision setting.

Our Approach

2engage designed and delivered a practical training session focused on applied drama techniques. The workshop included interactive exercises and adaptable tools that teachers could embed directly into their lesson planning.

We explored:

  • Short, varied interventions to maintain student engagement

  • Games and activities that reinforced learning in dynamic ways

  • Strategies to stimulate interest while addressing behavioural and emotional needs

Impact

The session received highly positive feedback. Staff expressed enthusiasm about trying new approaches and felt more confident in using drama as a tool to enhance engagement and learning.

2. Creative Workshop for University Students

Location: Liverpool Hope University
Audience: 2nd-Year Social Care and Pedagogy Students

Challenge

To expose future educators and care professionals to the benefits of creativity and applied drama in learning environments.

Our Approach

2engage delivered a 2-hour CPD workshop, combining theory and practical examples for students. We provided an insightful presentation outlining our background and creative methodologies. We emphasised the use of drama, music, and movement as key tools to explore play and creativity with a diverse range of learners. A significant part of the discussion focused on inclusive practice, particularly in relation to Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), highlighting how activities and games can be adapted to suit individual learner needs.

In the second half of the session, we invited students from both disciplines to take part in a series of practical exercises. This hands-on component encouraged participants to actively engage with the techniques shared and reflect on how they might apply similar creative strategies in their own future practice.

Impact

Students actively engaged in the session, gaining first-hand experience of techniques they could apply in future roles. The workshop encouraged cross-discipline reflection and helped participants consider how to adapt creative practices for different settings and needs.
