Our arts-based nurse communication training is a dynamic, in-person programme designed specifically for nursing students completing their degrees. It provides simulated placement hours and focuses on building the confidence, resilience and interpersonal skills needed to deliver effective, compassionate care in any clinical environment.

Using immersive, real-world scenarios, the training challenges students to reflect on their communication style, strengthen their ability to connect with patients, and prepare for the complex realities of modern healthcare.

PROVEN POSITIVE IMPACT

1770 surveys (96%) showed nurses believed our arts-based communication training programme had positively contributed to their overall learning journey.

EXPERT FACILITATORS

1794 surveys (97.5%) showed our facilitators played a significant role in helping nurses to grasp concepts and get involved.

NMC STANDARDS OF PROFICIENCY

1805 surveys (98%) showed that student nurse believed this training was beneficial to their learning and professional development, whilst helping them achieve some NMC standards of proficiency.

Transforming Nurse Training

Our training goes beyond theory – it challenges nurses to reflect honestly on their own communication style, habits, and areas for improvement.

Through immersive, arts-based sessions, participants explore the emotional and practical aspects of patient interaction, from body language and tone to active listening and empathy. By using theatre and storytelling, we create a safe but powerful space where nurses can recognise their blind spots and build the confidence to communicate more effectively in real clinical settings.

The modern nurse is expected to be a ‘super communicator’, able to connect with patients while managing complex emotional, psychological, and physical needs. By stepping away from purely clinical models, our training builds confidence, resilience, and self-awareness through real-world scenarios.

The result? A more prepared, empathetic, and responsive nurse – supported by a peer network and equipped to meet the demands of modern healthcare.

NMC Proficiencies

Our nurse communication training aligns with several outcomes within Platform 1, Platform 5, and Annexe A of the NMC’s Standards of Proficiency for Registered Nurses and can support trainee nurses in advancing towards meeting these outcomes.

Communication and Relationship Management Skills

By engaging in realistic scenarios, students gain hands-on experience in a controlled environment, allowing them to confidently refine their communication and interpersonal abilities. Our supportive setting enables trainee nurses to practice skills like empathy, and conflict resolution without real-world pressures, better preparing them for the challenges of simulations and their future careers.

Our nurse communication training covers a range of topics that enhance communication and relationship management skills including:

  • Unconscious bias
  • Body language
  • Navigating conflict
  • Empathy
  • Dealing with stress
  • Resilience
  • Intuition

Being an Accountable Professional

Our nurse communication training integrates immersive theatre-based techniques to highlight key elements of professional practice.

By concentrating on critical skills such as self-reflection, resilience, and effective communication, we prepare future nurses to deliver compassionate, person-centered care while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and accountability in healthcare settings

  • Enhanced Self-Reflection: Our training encourages students to critically assess their own actions and decisions, encouraging accountability and continuous personal development.
  • Ethical Decision-Making: Immersive scenarios challenge students to make complex decisions and navigate ethical dilemmas, reinforcing their ability to act with integrity and transparency.
  • Effective Communication: Through role-play and improvisation, students develop strong communication skills, crucial for clear, honest interactions in professional practice.
  • Resilience and Responsibility: Nurses will develop resilience and emotional intelligence.
  • Bias Awareness and Challenge: The training helps participants identify and understand their own unconscious biases, empowering them to confront and address discriminatory behaviour and micro-aggressions in the NHS.

Building Resilience: Preparing for the NHS

Our nurse communication training uses theatre-based techniques like forum theatre, improvisation, and role-play to help student nurses reflect on and enhance their practice, building the essential interpersonal skills needed for success in challenging healthcare settings.
